THE RUBY
The Ruby is a group and gathering place for artists, designers and small business owners to connect within the Austin community. Candice, Ana and I founded the collaborative at the beginning of this year. To bring everyone together, we curate a seasonal event that involves networking along with shopping, dining, or something else that sparks creativity.
The Ruby brand represents all three of the founders. We wanted it to feel feminine but simple and handmade yet refined. We also had a small budget for printing so we had to plan ahead and be thoughtful about every print we made.
One of the invitation items, for example, was stamped on pages from an old calendar book. The book cost $2 at the flea market.
You’ll see a common thread through most of the materials. We wanted the system to be interactive and customizable. The business cards have lines for a handwritten note. The calendar given to guests at the first event has space to jot down upcoming events.
A goal I had for The Ruby brand, and every project I take on, is to make something useful and beautiful enough to keep. There’s nothing more satisfying than seeing a piece you designed, pinned up on a bulletin board.
